Old Newspaper Repair

As with any work on paper, newspaper is subject to typical age damage caused by the acidic nature of the paper.  This includes browning/yellowing of the paper (acid burn), brown spotting (foxing), and mat lines (mat burn).  In the case of newspaper, the acidity in the paper can cause the paper to become quite brittle, as well.  If the pH of the paper is not neutralized, these unsightly issues will worsen.

Other damage we commonly see on newspapers is tears and paper loss, rippling/curling, creasing, liquid staining and insect damage.  Tape and adhesives are also detrimental to newspaper.
