Photograph Restoration

As with any work on paper, photographs are subject to typical age damage caused by the acidic nature of the paper.   This is especially true of antique photographs.   This damage includes browning/yellowing of the paper (acid burn), brown spotting (foxing), and mat lines (mat burn).   In the case of photographs, the acidity in the paper can be detrimental to the image layer changes the overall appearance of the piece.   If the pH of the paper is not neutralized, these unsightly issues will worsen.

Other damage we commonly see on photographs is mold/mildew growth, tears and paper loss, rippling/curling, creasing, abrasions, liquid staining and insect damage.  Acidic mats, acidic backings and tape are also detrimental to a photograph.

ACA Paper Restoration provides photograph conservation and photograph restoration services.   We specialize in the conservation of antique photographs and photograph processes.   Our photo restoration services include deacidifying, patching, pressing, mold treatment, archival mounting and retouch.   We also remove backings, mats, and tape, if necessary.   Find out what we can do to enhance and preserve your photograph.
